An exciting internal opportunity has arisen for the appointment of one full time (minimum 0.8 WTE) permanent pre-registration Clinical Scientists (Band 6) working within the oncology team at the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS - Salisbury).
We are inviting applications from hard working, self-motivated individuals who wish to work towards HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist within Molecular Genetics or Developing Sciences. Experience working as a Specialist Health Care Science Practitioner or equivalent is a requirement to apply for this role.
The role requires a commitment to submission of a portfolio of evidence to the Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) in order to obtain the certificate of equivalence necessary for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Candidates should familiarise themselves with this process prior to application.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the appropriate level of self-motivation and self-directed learning required to achieve this objective and should recognise that a time commitment outside of work will likely be necessary.
Training will be overseen by appropriate senior staff and will be directed in accordance with diagnostic service requirements. A bespoke training plan will be devised in collaboration with each trainee.
The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of diagnostic laboratory genetics and the ability to critically analyse and interpret scientific data and compile genomic reports.
In addition, excellent communication skills are essential, to ensure effective multi-disciplinary team-working and the communication of complex information to service users.
Please note, the successful candidates would be expected to work the standard departmental hours of 9am-5.30pm and a minimum 0.8WTE.
